Braid bread with beer

Nice airy plaited bread with a subtle taste of beer. You can make this easy version of beer bread (with the help of a bag of yeast) within 2,5 hours. And how good do you think the house will smell…?

You can eat this bread 'just like that', with some butter or cheese. But it is also very tasty with soup or stew. Give it a try!

You can make one (large) braid bread from this recipe



Ingredients:

  • 550 gr wheat flour
  • 10 g salt
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 300 ml (almost 1 bottle) of beer
  • 7 gr (1 sachet) dried yeast OR 24 gr fresh yeast
  • 1 egg yolk, for brushing
  • sesame seeds, for sprinkling

Preparation braid bread

Weigh the flour into a large bowl and mix with the salt, sugar and dried yeast. Then add the olive oil and the beer and knead into a smooth dough. Is the dough too sticky? Then add some more flour. And is it just too dry? Then add some beer or water.

After about 15 minutes of kneading by hand (or 5 minutes in a machine) the dough is ready. Now let it rise in a warm place for at least an hour, until it has doubled in size.

TIP: I always turn on the oven for a minute, until it is about 30 degrees. Then I turn it out and you have the perfect, draft-free place to let dough rise.



After rising, divide the dough into three parts. Roll this out into a snake of about 40 cm and use it to make a braid. Fold both ends of the braid under so that the loaf has a nice shape. Then place the braided bread on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

Then beat the egg yolk and brush the bread with it. Then sprinkle the bread with some sesame seeds.

Now let the plaited bread rise for another hour.

Then preheat the oven to 200°C and bake the plaited bread for about 35-40 minutes, until it is golden and cooked through. Let the bread cool down and finally cut it into slices. Enjoy your dinner!
