Make Joppie sauce yourself recipe tips Joppie sauce

Make your own Joppie sauce

Joppie sauce is one of my favorite snack sauces. At our house it's about the fries, fried fish and even barbecue meat. Everyone really loves this variation of mayonnaise.

I remember -- and this of course shows how old I am -- when the sauce came out new on the market. It must have been the new millennium somewhere at the beginning. The real Joppie sauce was the first to be available in the East of the country, since it is an invention from Twente. Slowly the west also conquered and now it is even with the Belgian frying pan to find!

Now you can of course buy Joppie sauce in the store. It can be found in every supermarket these days. But making your own is just much more fun and tastier. Because the onions are only fresh in homemade Joppie sauce… and you can taste that!

By the way, you don't have to leave it for work either. Your own, homemade Joppie sauce can be on the table within five minutes, because all you have to do is mix a few ingredients. Do not cook, heat or cool. So easy!

This recipe is for 4-6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 6 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tsp curry powder
  • ½ onion or 1 shallot, chopped
  • 1 tl paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • pinch of salt

Preparation Joppie sauce:

To make the Joppie sauce, first chop the onion half or the shallot very finely – the following applies to this recipe: the finer, the better!

TIP: Do you like a really smooth sauce? Puree the onion first with a stick blender or chopper.

Place the onion pieces in a bowl and then add the mayonnaise, tomato ketchup and curry powder. Stir it all together well. Then add the paprika, pepper, cayenne pepper and salt and stir well again.

That's it – the Joppie sauce is ready! You can eat it right now or store it in a sealed jar in the fridge.

Serve the sauce with fries, baked potatoes or for example baked fish of shrimps. Enjoy your meal!
