Halloween bat cupcakes
You make these chocolate cupcakes in the shape of a bat. Thanks to the beautiful dollop of chocolate frosting and the half Oreo cookies, you can achieve that result quickly and easily. Great for Halloween or any other themed party!
I always go big on Halloween – with creepy bakes and candy, like these bat cupcakes. Every year when the calendar indicates October, all the goodies are suddenly baked in a 'spooky' theme. The kids don't mind at all, of course.
You make these cupcakes with chocolate batter and buttercream. You can easily make the latter yourself with this recipe. Another option is to buy a mix for chocolate mousse and make the swirl with it. Even easier… You can make the eyes of the bats from (edible or non-edible) 'googly eyes'. In the photo they are made of plastic, but you also made them from sugar. Two half oreo cookies as wings and the bat cupcakes are ready1
This recipe makes about 15-18 cupcakes

ingredients:
batter
- 200ml hot water
- 50 gr cocoa powder
- 2 eggs
- 175 gr granulated sugar
- 1 sachet / 8 gr vanilla sugar
- a pinch of salt
- 150 gr butter, at room temperature
- 175 gr wheat flour
- ½ sachet (8 gr) baking powder
frosting
- 225 gr butter, at room temperature
- 400 gr icing sugar
- 50 gr cocoa powder
- 50 ml whipping cream (unwhipped)
- a pinch of salt
and further…
- (sugar) eyes
- Oreo cookies, for the wings
Preparation bat cupcakes
Start making the batter. To do this, first mix the hot water with the cocoa powder to form a smooth paste. Then set this aside.
Now beat the eggs together with the sugar, vanilla sugar and salt in a large bowl. Add the butter and cocoa mixture and stir until smooth. Finally, add the flour and baking powder and stir until smooth.
Now preheat the oven to 175°C. Then spoon the batter into 15-18 cupcake tins and bake the cupcakes in 20-25.
Meanwhile, make the buttercream. Put the butter in a (stand) mixer and beat it for two minutes until fluffy. This can also be done with an electric hand mixer.
Now add the remaining ingredients and beat the buttercream for about 5 minutes. Is the cream too thin? Then add some extra sugar. Is it just too thick? Then add some extra whipped cream. Place the buttercream in the fridge for XNUMX minutes to set.
When the cupcakes have cooled, you can finish them by squirting a generous dollop of buttercream on top. Two wings of half Oreo cookies and (sugar) eyes complete the bat cupcakes. - Enjoy your dinner!
