Caribbean mashed potatoes in collaboration with Tromp and Rueb.

Caribbean mashed potatoes

I have a weakness for mashed potatoes. It's one of those dishes you can eat anytime, right? But today we're going to do it differently. We're going to give the mashed potatoes a Caribbean makeover. Caribbean? Of course!

I give the mashed potatoes the taste of Surinamese potato chutney. So nice and spicy Madame Jeanette pepper, garlic, cumin and turmeric. This changes it from a boring puree to a really tasty dish.

And the secret ingredient? That is the Natural Cloud Apple Cider Vinegar from Tromp and Rueb. The sourness of it also reminds you of that delicious Surinamese potato sambal. Trust me, you'll want to try this!

This recipe is for 4 people

Ingredients:

For the mashed potatoes:

  • 500 gr potatoes
  • 100 gr grated cheese
  • Handful of fried bacon
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoon milk

For the special mixture:

  • 2 tbsp sunflower oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 Madame Jeanette pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 tl cumin powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric

Preparation of the Caribbean Mashed Potatoes

1. Boil the potatoes until done. Drain them and mash them together with the butter, vinegar and milk into a fine puree.

2. Heat the sunflower oil in a pan. Fry the onion, garlic and Madame Jeanette pepper. Add the cumin powder and turmeric and stir well.

3. Mix this special mixture through the mashed potatoes. The puree now has a beautiful yellow color and a wonderful smell.

4. Grease an oven dish with butter and put the mashed potatoes in the dish. Sprinkle with the grated cheese and the fried bacon.

5. Place the dish under the grill for about 15 minutes, until the cheese has melted and there is a crispy crust.

And that's it: your Caribbean mashed potatoes are ready! This dish is delicious as a side dish with a meat or fish dish, but can also stand alone. Enjoy your meal!
